A fund has been established to honor the accomplishments and legacy of Dr. Gerald M. Masson, founding chair of the Department of Computer Science and founder of the JHU Information Security Institute.
Gerry was a remarkable leader, a brilliant researcher, and a generous mentor and colleague. The Whiting School of Engineering and the university would not be what they are today without Gerry’s energy, vision, and contributions.
The Masson Fund in Computer Science has been created through leadership gifts from alumni Joe Pistritto ’79 ’80 and Jun Wu ’98 ‘03. Our goal now, and our challenge, is to raise the additional funds necessary to ensure that this fund will be able to provide critical support to our students in perpetuity.
Gerry inspired generations of undergraduate and graduate students and The Masson Fund will continue the impact Gerry has had by benefitting computer science students in the areas of research, entrepreneurship, and service. We believe that this fund will make a real difference in our students’ experiences and will enhance considerably their education. In addition, the fund will provide an enduring tribute to Gerry, whose leadership and vision have for decades inspired countless students and faculty.
